Capes are having a major fashion moment- Here's how to rock the trend

Everywhere we turn, we see capes, on Instagram, on the runways, at events, red carpets and even very casual social functions, yes they're having a moment, but I'll like to call it having a moment of "over wear." We love fashion and trends but carving your niche in wearing a trend is what differentiates fashion from style.
Below are guests at the Launch of Yemi Alade's bland to glam collection and it seems most of them decided to turn up in capes!
For the love of fashion,we are going to highlight some guidelines for rocking the cape trend, just in case you want to join the cape fun too.

Do not tie on!: When you tie on a cape, it makes it look like you're channeling your inner superman. If it's detachable, go for styles that allow you to attach them at the sides, or those which are done so tastefully, it doesn't end up looking like a tied on apron.

Do a neutral colour: When you are styling colourful capes or prined ones, feel free to pair them on a solid colour. This keeps the cape as the centre of attention while making fashion statemenets. This outfit above might not be a fantastic well put together example, but surely you get what I'm trying to say.

This is one of the most commonly seen ones, and I especially like them because they're versatile. A print number like this like I said above, will look fabulous on a solid piece. But if you'd like to challenge your inner fashionista, do well to match up with a print skirt or pants. Just follow the tricks of matching prints and you'll be fine. Don't now how to pair prints? We'll be putting up some guidelines in another post.

Asymmetric works just fine: When you're rocking a trend, feel free to try variations. We love this asymmetric take on the cape trend. It's chiffon hence it's transparent and give the outfit a different vibe on it's own. Pair a bright coloured chiffon cape with a matching bright coloured dress for a better effect.

Definitely do a belt: Of course, a trend is what you make of it. I love how she styled this gorgeous cape blouse. By using a big buckle belt, she cinched in her waist thus creating proportions, but still leaving a draped cape feel.

Here are some more guests from the event.
Do you like capes?
What do you think of the trend.
Of course you can get you cape dresses at the Wearable Art Gallery, at the fouteen thurty six mall on Sanusi fafunwa Victoria Island, Lagos
